Frequently Asked Questions

There are 4 steps you need to complete to obtain your licence.
STEP 1 Firstly, online theory training to complete the BoatSafe accredited course in preparation for the formal theory assessment & must be completed prior to practical boat or pwc training.
STEP 2 Next, put that theory into practice by undergoing practical boat or PWC training on the water to become competent to complete your practical assessment.
STEP 3 Once you have mastered both the theory and practical training sections. Complete Theory & Practical assessment. These are done to the Boatsafe standards.
STEP 4 You’ve done it…. Now take your Statement of Competency to Queensland Transport within 6 months to obtain your Marine Licence.
To obtain a PWC (Jet Ski) Licence you will need to first hold a RMDL (boat) licence or equivalent. The combined Boat & PWC Licence Course is available at the same time under the same 4 step process.
The minimum age to obtain a boat or PWC licence is 16. You can attend a course at 15½yo as the statement of competency is valid for 6 months.

Australian Boating College is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) (# 3399), registered by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and approved by the state registration authorities to deliver Nationally Recognised boat and PWC licence training.
The courses run by Australian Boating College throughout Australia, are fully accredited and run in accordance with National Training standards.

No, whichever course you are doing on the day, we provide the Boat or Jet Ski. We use the most up to date modern and easy to drive vessels, the type you are more likely to use yourself for boating and jet skiing.

Yes, you must hold a current recreational boat licence for this course, if you do not, you would then need to bool the Boat & PWC Course combined.

If it’s only raining, we won’t cancel. If the weather conditions are not suitable to run the course, we will reschedule for another day to suit as best we can.

Whilst our success rate is very high if you are unsuccessful at any of the practical assessment’s additional training is available.
Reassessment practical session fees will vary depending on the final outcome of the tasks achieved at assessment.

Please discuss any language, literacy or numeracy issues with the instructor prior to attending. This will enable the instructor to organise appropriate support facilities. For example we can arrange to conduct assessments orally rather than in the written form, or extra tuition, as appropriate.

We require a minimum 48 hours notice for rescheduling, a 50% re-booking charge of the course fees is required if the specified time is not given. In the event that you cannot attend the course, refunds are not available

In the event that you cannot attend the course, refunds are not available, however given at least 48 hours’ notice your booking and payment is transferable to another date or person (max 3 transfers). A 50% re booking fee is required if the specified notice is not given. In the event that a course is cancelled by us for any reason, you have the option of transferring to another course, or a full refund. If you do the theory training online, you must do the theory and practical assessments within 3 months, after which the time allowed by Maritime Safety Queensland expires, and you would need to pay another full fee for the theory training course.
